First race… well, guess what, it wasn’t for lack of wind that we did not do the races, but the other way around.
A moderate 10-15 knots wind filled in today to make it a beautiful racing day. Most sailors set out on 11’s, Paulo dos Reis was the only one who chose 12.0.
Sean O'Brien recorded this interview with Wilhelm Schurmann "down under" during the recent Oceanic Championships.
IWA has now put in place a Women's section on the IWA website. Help us to make this section grow by sending us your articles, photos and info to contribute to this area - e-mail - "To encourage, support and motivate women in windsurfing, improve their status and boost the participation of women (competing) in windsurfing worldwide."
The cold front that arrived at night, brought some awesome conditions for today.
Most of the sailors went out on 10's since the wind was around 15-18 knots, if this was a normal spot, you could easily go out with 11's, but here in Montevideo, the South wind is onshore and you get a crazy choppy sea, that if its over 25 knots, all the harbors close and it's impossible to go out. So with the 15-18 knots we had today, it was already impossible not to hit some head hight chop and get air lifted.
The course for the day was a windward leeward course with 2 upwinds and we set out to do 3 back to back races.
A frustrating start to the 2010 South American Championship hosted at Puerto del Buceo , Montevideo, by the Uruguay Yacht Club.
Pre race day gave the opportunity for early arrivals to train on the water - but come day one of racing and the wind did not show !
However it is looking good for today with strong winds forecast - up to 25 knots!
Willhelm Schurmann (BRA999) will be hoping to maintain the form that brought him maximum ranking points from the Oceanics and sees him heading the World Ranking.

The revised and updated Class Rules are now published. The main changes are in the wording and layout of some existing rules - to be in line with latest thinking and the ISAF 2009>2012 Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS).
The fundamental rules about dimensions and limitations of equipment are unchanged.
Competitors are reminded about the new ISAF Windsurfing Competition Rules (WCR) regarding sail identification ( ie sail numbers - 3 letter country code and personal number ) which must be placed back to back on opaque white background . The 2009 AGNM agreed that this rule shall be applied from 2010.

Wilhelm Schurmann on top of the FW Ranking 2010 after Oceanic...
Regrettably it has been necessary to postpone the Europeans scheduled for Portugal in the spring. Overpower have been working hard to secure the financial support needed for the event to go ahead, but it was decided that there was now insufficient time to publish a Notice of Race for an event at end of April.
The championship will now be scheduled for later in the year and will, of course, avoid clashing with any ranking events on the international calendar. If they have not already done so, member national associations are requested to advise the office on the dates of their national championships.
