The second day at the 2017 Formula Windsurfing Youth & Masters World Championships started quite smoothly with sunny skies, with the first warning signal scheduled for 13:00.
After lunch time the thermal winds slowly started kicking in while the race committee and the water crew headed out the prepare and adjust the course for a possible start. The wind readings were 10 to 11 knots with some stronger gusts on the course area. Most competitors were prepared and ready for the first race of the championships.
Lago di Santa Croce was filled with colourful sails crossing each-other during the races with increasing winds and dark clouds approaching. Afetr the second race was sailed the thunder became louder and the clouds darker, the race committee decided to sent all competitors back to the shore just I time before the heavy rain started to fall followed by strong winds and hail. The rest of the day the sky and mountain tops was filled with low hovering clouds and too light winds to continue. Day 2 came to an end with only 2 races sailed and it is Janis Preiss from Latvia who currently is leading the Masters fleet with a 1st and 4th position in both races and his nearest opponents are Martinho Miguel from Portugal and Liutkus Giedrius from Lithuania with equal points on the 2nd and 3rd position.
The leader in the Youth fleet at the moment is Anders Eliansen from Denmark with a 3rd and 1st position followed by his nearest opponent Maurits Franken from The Netherlands with a 1st and a 4th position ( 1 point away )
