Once again the CARMIM LAGO ALQUEVA FW 201, was a amazing success on land, because for the second time in a row, as we didn’t have a lot of wind in the 4 days of competition.
Regarding this lack of wind (only one race complete) and for the competitors of Formula that don´t know this SPOT, in 2014 and 2015 we had lots of wind, 2014 we had 13 races and in 2015 12 races in 4 days, with winds between 10 knots and 30 knots. Like in every place we could have luck and have wind, and other times we don´t have any wind.
Except this wind issue, the rest of the event was a huge success, for competitors and there families. The first two days, the maximum of wind we had was around 07 knots, not enough for racing, but several competitors go to the water and test the big formula windsurfing equipment. The only day that we had wind was in the 3º day, with wind between 07 to 10 knots, only enough to do one race, and a very tricky one, once again Miguel Martinho take the bullet.
The rest of the days, was to test, rig and de rig the equipment, and prepare all the gear for the rest of the season. Also during this days we had the Open Ceremony in the restaurant Centro nautico de Monsaraz, and on Monday we had the official dinner, at CARMIM WINERY our big Sponsor of the event, was also one of the ways to know the new wines for 2016, and the majority of the competitors buy several boxes of wine, because Carmim made special deals for the competitors could by wine. This Winery is one of the biggest winery in Portugal, and since 2015 and support and sponsor this big Championship, that also is the best and the biggest event of Formula windsurfing in Portugal.
This time we only had Portuguese and Spanish, not so many that in other years, because now with the Internet with lots of websites with wind Forecast lots of Competitors didn’t came, was a pity because the competitors that come they enjoy it very much.
Also for the first time, we had the Portuguese National Television, making a video of the Formula event, with the Alqueva Lake, was a very good way not only to promote the Lake but to promote our class.
We like to thank all the competitors that come to the event, and also our support – City Hall of Reguengos de Monsaraz, Carmim, Protecção Civil and Centro Nautico de Monsaraz.
In the end of the championship, we had the prize giving of the only race we had, that crowned Miguel Martinho the Champion of CARMIM LAGO ALQUEVA FW 2017, the only thing bad is because we didn’t had 3 races, this Championship will not count for the FORMULA WINDSURFING SERIES 2017.
For next year, we already have the promise that the City Hall of Reguengos de Monsaraz and CARMIM will support this Championship of 2018, with some very good surprises that will get better even more the event.
