This weekend was one of the most important championship for Formula Windsurfing and for the Portuguese, was the open Portuguese Championship, from this championship will be crowned the Portuguese Champion in Formula Windsurfing for 2015.
Finally we came to Cascais once again, since long time ago that we don´t have any Formula Windsurfing event in Cascais, since the European and since the Euro-cup event, almost 10 years ago. The place is always amazing, sometimes with strong winds, and sometimes with a very technical and tactical racing.
The organizer Club is one of the most important Clubs in Portugal, and they organize very important sailing racing, professional racing, but this time was the most important class of windsurfing in Portugal Formula Windsurfing.
The first day of the event was registration and racing in the afternoon, but the forecast was to be very strong winds, and this time the forecast was right, winds between 32 knots and gusts with 39 knots, impossible to race in Formula, all the fleet waited in the race office Bar, but the wind continued to strong, and the committee, cancel for the day.
In the second day the forecast, was good, only the wind getting much strong in the afternoon and for that the first possible race for the second day was to be at 11.00, to try to make 4 races with light winds, but this time the forecast was wrong, the competitors only go to the water very late in the afternoon, because the wind came very late. In the second day they did 3 races back to back, to try to make the more races possible. The wind was between 11 knots and 18 knots very good for a good racing. The 3 bullets was for Miguel Martinho, with Mario Medeiros in second place and Bruno Bertholo in the 3º place.
In the third day the CR, wanted to run 5 races in the last day, and for that the first possible race was to be at 10.30. The competitors waited more than 4 hours in the Club waiting for the wind, and finally the CR, start a race with 10 to 13 knots. Was only possible to run only one race because the wind was very light and shifty, and for that the CR had to finish the Championship with only 4 races in total.
Final results: 1º – Miguel Martinho; 2º – Mario Medeiros “Sabão”; 3º – Bruno Bertholo
The majority of the competitors and also the organizers was very happy with the event, was the first time for this Club a organization of a Formula Windsurfing event, but was a very good organization, congratulations to all.
We hope next year we can organize also a Formula Windsurfing event in Cascais, and for sure will be a better event.
