The Chesapeake Bay delivered once again at the Kashy Fins Windsurfing Festival.
3 days in a row with winds at 15-25knots. 18 racers were treated to 9 races in both fleets. Darren Rogers set a very efficient course, with the formula fleet sailing a windward leeward course for formula and a triangle for the Open fleet. Christophe Waerzeggers, Ron Kern and Dave Kashy battled hard on day 1 with many lead changes and all finishing within 10 seconds of each other in 4 of 5 races. Amazingly Christophe took 5 straight bullets, Ron took 5 straight seconds. Formula sailors were on sails from 8.4 to 10.7. In the Open Fleet Myles Borash took 5 bullets over John Contos.
Sunday saw similar conditions with just slightly lower winds to start. Kashy took his 12 which turned out to be sailable but not fast. 3 back to back formula races were held and Ron and Christophe were again the leaders, but this time Ron won two of the races and had an over early with Dave in the 7th race. The final race was a longer course out into the bay. Kashy on his 10.0 won the start but tacked too early just short of the layline to the windward mark. Waerzeggers on his 10.0 rounded first followed by Kern on his 10.7. The two battled it out till the end within meters of each other throughout the race. On the final they jybed in unison but Kern planed through the jybe and blasted to the finish, winning the day but it was not enough to take the title.
