The weatherman gave everyone a lot of hope with strong winds forecast for the entire weekend. As so often happens in Miami, Biscayne Bay’s little micro climate was almost completely opposite the forecast. This gave us some time to enjoy the new beach improvements in front of Sailboards Miami.
However, after 12:30 the winds started to fill in as the cloud cover gave way to sunshine over the Rickenbacker Causeway. After considerable prodding from the Race Director (sort of like herding cats), the racers made their way to the course about 2:45. The winds were definitely on the marginal side for the 3 races, but the racers made the best of it. Light wind master Fernando took 3 straight bullets. Others looking good out there were Ron Kern, Britt Viehmann, Cullen Ahearn, Martin Abete, Peter Ifju and Alex “Movie Star” Morales on his handmade board.
The outlook for Sunday is definitely better than today. Look for more action, including photos of action from both days right here soon!
