First race… well, guess what, it wasn’t for lack of wind that we did not do the races, but the other way around.

A unexpected cold front swept Montevideo and gale force winds blew through the night to make it impossible to sail today. The winds were gusting up to 30 knots which wasn’t to bad, but the seas were impossible to go out. The port was closed and no boats where allowed out of the harbor. We waited until about 2pm and then the race committee decided to call if of, since there was no sign of the wind and the waves dying out.

So with this, we finalized the South American championship with 6 very good races. Paulo dos Reis, took the South American title for the first time after being runner up last year. In second place, Wilhelm Schurmann, last years winner took the second spot followed by Gonzalo Costa in third.

Mathias Pinheiro who finished fourth overall took the Masters title. In fifth place, local Guillermo Ahlig, has shown that he has the talent and speed to be up there. Mateus Issac (top junior) took the sixth spot on the tie brake against two other sailors, Ricardo Conde in seventh who won the Grand Masters followed by Carlos Alberto Issac, (Mateus Father) in eight who finished second in the Grand Masters. Ricardo Pretz took the 9th spot and was the third Grand Master, Pretz was also very much involved in the organization and was our host in this great town. The final top10 place went to Frederico Fraschini on a tie break from Renato Pozolo, who is coming back strong after a few years away from competition. Sofia Cardoso was the only female competitor and impressed everyone on how fast she has been improving.
