Today, on June 28 in the second day of „Audi Neilpryde Windsurfing Baltic Cup 2008” competition in Pavilosta after totally five rides the leading position in Formula Windsurfing class took Janis Preiss (Latvia). The second was Martin Ervin (Estonia), but third place taken by Ansis Dale (Latvia). Today were held totally 10 starts in all disciplines of the competition.
Jānis Preiss, Extreme Sports team surfer and triple Baltic Cup winner:
„The most extreme moment of the day was the first ride when I went in sprint for the first place and the majority of distance was behind but suddenly the sail mast broke and everything stops. Today I finished as the first one at four rides of five in total however. The surfing conditions were extremely favourable and no one could wish best wind at all. It was certainly stabile wind blow at 10 meters per second. The strongest competitors were Toomas Molder and Martin Ervin from Estonia as well as Ansis Dale from Latvia. I felt comfortable on water because of spend training hours before and that was the reason that allowed me to run rally fast”.
The current Audi Neilpryde Windsurfing Baltic Cup 2008 favourite Janis Preiss has broken the most suitable sail mast and the wind is forecasted slower for tomorrow. „I hope that wind will blow and I will hold my place,” says Janis Preiss.
Ansis Dāle, Extreme Sports team, lifelong professional windsurfer with the experience of Olympic Games:
”Wind forecast fulfilled – west direction blow slanting toward the coast in combination with one meter high waves and the sun created ideal conditions for Formula Windsurfing class surfing. The organisers were well done and 10 starts were held totally in all racing disciplines. The distance was successfully set to prove surfers’ skills and included all tactical elements – good start and sailing windward and downwind.
For me, personally, today the most extreme moment relates an equipment detail crash at the fourth ride when I went for the second place but the technical incident not allowed to finish”.
„Audi Neilpryde Windsurfing Baltic Cup 2008” is a professional competition in windsurfing, which gathers the surfers from several world countries in order to fight for prizes in the Baltic stage, which is a part of the World rating table. The Latvian stage competition takes place in Pāvilosta from June 27 to June 29 and this year marks its tenth anniversary of existence.
