From August 10th to 16th the famous ENGADINWIND.COM festival will take place in Silvaplana / St. Moritz in Switzerland. This year the event is celebrating a huge birthday: The Engadin Surf Marathon, one of the most traditional windsurfing competitions, is celebrating its 30th anniversary!

The Engadin Surf Marathon is one of the highlights of the ENGADINWIND.COM festival. It will be incorporated in the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Silvaplana taking place as a one discipline racing (Formula Windsurfing) regatta from Friday, August 10th to Sunday, August 12th. Due to the marathon race with additional separate prize money the purse is boosted up to a total of EUR 20.000,00 for the hands of the racers. This kicks the event up to the status of a Formula Windsurfing Grand Prix.

Silvaplana is traditionally a strong attraction for competitors of all levels as it is easy to be reached by car due to its location in the middle of Europe. The excellent organization and media interest in conjunction with the prize money and points for the Euro-Cup and Formula Windsurfing World ranking list make it an obligatory event for top racers from all over the world.

The Engadin Surf Marathon will be a special long distance race over 42km. It will take the competitors several laps arround the Lake Silvaplana. The result of this race will count as two races for the Windsurfing Euro-Cup event result list. The marathon race is scheduled for Saturday with Sunday as reserve day if the conditions are not suitable on Saturday.

Many windsurfing legends have participated in or even won the Engadin Surf Marathon in the past. For example the first Marathon was won by the “godfather of windsurfing” Robby Naish. 2005 the current Speed World Record holder Finian Maynard was able to dominate. Several of the stars have already announced that they will return this year to celebrate the anniversary…
