To all that are interested in participating in the Formula South American Championships in Brazil, here is some important information.

The event will be from the 25th to the 29th of May.

It will be held in Fernando de Noronha Island, one of Brazils most beautiful national parks. The island is situated off the North Coast of Brazil and it takes about 1 hour by plane from the city of Recife.

The trade winds are around 10 to 20 knots in May, last year the Brazilian Nationals where held there and we had winds raging from 12 knots all the way up to 30 knots. The winds are offshore so there are very little waves or chop.

–>There are two ways for you to get there. You can book your flight from wherever you are coming to Fernando de Noronha and back. If you do that, make sure your connection in Rio or Sao Paulo to Recife, departs from the same airport, other wise they will make you change airports and it’s not close. Also make sure your connection in Recife is a big plane that can take your gear, as there are small plane that fly to the island that won’t take gear. All flights to Fernando de Noronha depart from Recife.

–>The second option, and what most people will be doing, is the chartered flight from Recife to Noronha and Back that is organized by the evet organizers. What you must do is book your flight so it gets to Recife at the latest around noon, since the chartered flight to the island will depart Recife at around 2-3 pm on the 23rd of May, this flight will return on the 30th of may from Noronha to Recife, arriving in Recife around 1 pm. If you want to arrive one day before in Recife, the organization will pick you up and take you to a hotel; they will take the gear and take it to the airport the next day for the chartered flight. Just remember again, if you arrive in Sao Paulo or Rio for your connection to Recife to be from the same airport.

–>Visas are also needed from some countries, so make sure you check that out way before.

The official website for the event is: www.noronhawindsurf.com.br

E-mail for information: info@noronhawindsurf.com.br

Next week the site will be translated both in Spanish and English.

All information regarding NOR, Accommodations, charted flight, Price money etc will be there. Check it out.

Also, don’t worry about your gear not making to the island and back, since all international sailors will have their gear board the plane first so you can make your connection with all your gear. Most gear from Brazilian sailors will be going and returning by boat, so the plane will have enough space. This was done last year.

–>One last advise, bring your diving masks, the island has awesome diving spots and since races are from around 9 to 1pm you’ll have all the afternoon to visit the island.

Best regards,

Wilhelm Schurmann
