Again the winds of San Francisco piped into the Bay and the race began at 12.30pm.

In the Gold fleet the top dogs all got away clean, with the 5 top sailors all coming together at the weather mark, with McGain rounding in first, Diaz second and Buzianis in third. McGain pushed on down to the bottom mark and was able to hang onto the lead ahead of Buzianis and Diaz. Up the next weather leg the winds had picked up to 22 knots with McGain stretching out his lead over Micah at the weather mark. McGain went on to finish convincingly over Buzianis and Diaz coming in third.

Another race was started after the prodigy, juniors and Silver fleet had their races. The winds continued to kick in now up to 28 knots. A clear start, with McGain in the middle of the line, Buzianis just upwind of him, Sam Ireland going at full speed. Devon started on port to head out into the middle of the bay. When sailors tacked it was McGain in a commanding position and Sam Ireland close behind. At the weather mark McGain had a comfortable lead over Ireland, with Buzianis, Boulon and Diaz all within a stone’s throw of each other.

At the bottom mark McGain rounded well ahead of Ireland, with Buzianis in third. Half way up the weather some San Fran water traffic in the way of a dredge forced most the sailors to tack back onto starboard and head inshore to the inside layline. McGain being the first to tack, looked in control of the race. At the weather mark McGain rounded 50 seconds ahead of Buzianis who managed to pass Ireland on the upwind. Boulon was also now in the hunt for a top three finish, was close to Micah on the downwind. McGain finished well ahead of Buzianis, with Boulon catching up to finish in third.

After 9 races.

1. McGain

2. Buzianis

3. Ireland

4. Diaz

5. Boulon

Tomorrow long distance in the morning and hopefully Slalom in the afternoon.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Today it was very warm and sunny. it was finally starting to look like summer in San Francisco. The wind came in a bit later today with the Juniors heading out for their first start and 12. Gold was next but at the last minute they changed it to Silver and there was a mad scramble among the Silver sailors to get to the water. Earlier in the morning a petition went around getting signitures to allow Mike Percy to join the Gold fleet. So after that he was moved up.

Silver #2 Kieran Devanney had a great race and cruised to an easy victory with alot of fighting going on behind him.

Gold #2 the tide was flooding so that it was favored to start starboard and head towards the shore to try to get out of the current a little. I had a pretty good start at the boat between Micah and Jimmy, with Sam behind Jimmy and Phil farther down the line. Micah was pointing high and i got pushed down into his wake forcing me to tack up the middle. i reached the layline and tacked for the mark but rounded in fifth as the other guys had gone all the way in and made out. Phil rounded in first with Jimmy, Micah and Sam close on his heels. Sam jibed for the outside and came down to round in fourth just between Jimmy in 3rd and Me in 5th. Phil had pulled out a comfortable lead and held it to the finish. Sam tacked to the beach which didnt work out and put him out of contention with us. i went below jimmy and we both went underneath micah. we were all waiting for each other to tack and finally tacked to the mark with micah rounding in 2nd, Jimmy in 3rd and me in 4th. I went high with speed and was able to pass jimmy before the mark and then sat behind micah to the finish to take 3rd with Jimmy 4th and Sam 5th.

everyone was very close in the 3rd Silver race and i was not able to see what was going on.

Gold #3 We all went Starboard again as the wind was really picking up to over 30knots. i was finally down on my 9.8 and was very lit up. I started down the line with good speed underneath Phil with Jimmy and Micah above him. Sam went out to the middle on Port. Phil tacked early and caught a very good lift up the center to round in first with Sam coming across in 2nd. i had good speed and stayed upwind and over the top of Jimmy and Micah to round in 3rd with them right behind. i caught up alot to Sam and Phil but jibed to early and had to do a costly double jibe around leeward to move back to 4th and round with Seth as Micah passed me to move into 3rd. Halfway up the second leg there was a big barge sitting right in the way. I tacked early and went inside as everyone else tacked at the barge. Sam made it just above the barge which moved him a bit closer to Phil at windward. Micah just pushed me out at the mark and held me back in 4th. I had very good speed downwind and caught him and was going over the top just as we reached the layline and jibed for the mark. We both were able to catch and pass Sam just before the mark. So Phil cruised to his second victory of the day and Micah and I got 2nd and 3rd again. with Jimmy in 4th, and Seth taking 5th just ahead of Sam who had crashed at the leeward mark.

they had been going for a long distance race after that but it was to windy and for saftey reasons they called it off for the rest of the day.

so after 3 Gold races and 9 total results the scores are

Phil and Micah tied for 1st with 12points

Devon 2nd 19points

Jimmy and Sam tied for 4th with 23points

Seth 6h 33points

Rob 7th 38points

tomorrow i hope for some more good racing and if it gets windy again they are planning to run some slalom, which should be exciting.

Best Regards

Devon
