Since its founding in the year 2001 the Windsurfing Euro-Cup is the most important competition series in Europe. For three years it has been a one discipline Racing (Formula Windsurfing) series. Now in its 4th year of existence, the Euro-Cup circuit is not only a major draw for racers wishing to compete at the highest level in the Formula Windsurfing Class. The Windsurfing Euro Cup will also bring back the most spectacular and exciting speed orientated discipline – Slalom. Here you can find some details how the coordination will be handled:

The discipline Slalom will be added as a separate discipline without an overall ranking. So nobody is forced to enter the Slalom but we expect that many of the existing Euro-Cup competitors will welcome the attractive format. They will be challenged by new competitors who are attracted by the ease and speed of Slalom. For the manufacturers, organizers, media and sponsors Slalom is a new fresh and exciting discipline that will draw more attention to the competition scene and is a format that brings the peak of the sport closer to the normal customers.

From 2004 onwards there can be three different types of Windsurfing Euro-Cup events:

o “one discipline Racing only” (like in the past)

o “one discipline Slalom only” (just another discipline)

o “combined Racing and Slalom” (both disciplines at one regatta)

For Racing the International Formula Windsurfing Class Rules are applied:

o 1 production board (max. 100 cm)

o 3 sails (max. 12,5 m˛)

o 3 fins (max 70 cm)

Please check this link for further details: www.formulawindsurfing.org

For Slalom the International Funboard Class Association Rules are applied:

o 2 production board (max 85 cm)

o 4 sails (max. 10,0 m˛)

But we have also realized the transportation problem and don’t want to return to the old times of “equipment war”. Therefore we have agreed with the chairmen of the classes that at combined events the equipment will be limited to one board and two sails for Racing and one board and three sails for Slalom. Racing should not be started over 20 knots, Slalom should not be started under 13 knots. The race committee decides if conditions are suitable for competition and, at a combined event, which discipline will be raced. The goal for the race committee is to achieve valid results in both disciplines with a 50:50 balance between them.

So at combined events the riders can skip the high wind racing rig, one (light wind) slalom board and one (light wind) slalom rig. This seems to be a good and practical solution and also reflects the interest of many recreational sailors. The Notice of Race and the official Windsurfing Euro-Cup Tour Calendar will announce what discipline(-s) will be run.
