The South American formula championship started today.
With about 60 people from south american (one from Puerto Rico) the contest
is happening in the city of Vitoria. Delegations from Peru, Colombia,
Argentina and Brasil are all here for the event that will go until Sunday.
Today a cold front came in and the winds started to fill in about 11 am .
At 1pm the race comity sent us to the water and we had the first race of
the day.
At the start winds were about 14-16 knots, but it soon picked up to 18-20.
At the start Gonzalo started alone on Port tack with the rest of the fleet
going out to the ocean. On the top mark, Leonardo Rebello (BRA 121)rounded
in first holding on to a 12.5, followed by Chris Mcgraf (PUR 5) from Puerto
Rico also on 12.5, Gonzalo (ARG 3) on 11 and Nevis (BRA 221) rounding in
4th, myself (BRA 999) and Paulo dos Reis (BRA 3333)
On the botom mark, Chris PUR 5, with exellent down wind speed rounded in
first followed by Gonzalo and Leonardo, than Paulo do Reis and Myself. by
the second upwind, everyone was overpowerd and the last down wind was
pretty tough, with some sailors having major wipeouts.
Chris finished in first sailing a incredible race holding on to 12.5 folowed
by paulo dos reis, than Gonzalo myself and Leonardo Rebello.
We all went to shore to change sails and had the next start at 2:30 pm, the
second race, the winds got really strong and gusts up to 30 knots. Chris
made it in first in the top mark, followed by gonzalo, Gabriel Starosta (BRA
307) and Paulo dos Reis. Gonzalo grabbed the lead and finished the race in
first, second came Chris, then Gabriel Starosta followed closely by Paulo
dos Reis and myself.
The 3rd and last race of the day (thanks god), saw Gonzalo leading in firs
followed by Cris and Myself all pretty close to the upwind mark, on the down
wind Gonzalo and Chris opened a good gap and I manage to hold on to Paulo
dos Reis until the finish, Gonzalo had a fall on the last down wind, and
Chris passed him and finished in first, second Gonzalo 3rd mysel and 4th
Paulo dos Reis.
So the provisional results are (after 3 races)
