I arrived at the race site this morning around quarter to nine to see what looked like very light offshore breezes. only to then be told by the race committee that it was a good solid 10-12knots a little farther into the lake. and that he would be sending us out in about a half hour. I quickly rigged my 12.5 and headed out to the narrow slot of wind right in the middle of the lake. It was actually about 2-12knots around the very very short 7-12minute course depending on how many holes you got stuck in. We were able to knock out four quick races.
I got a little competion from a few racers, with Guy Miller getting some good puffs on the first upwind and beating me around the windward mark. After rounding the mark I quickly took advantage of a gust on the other side and took the lead for the rest of the race.
In race two, I got unlucky with the wind on the start. And Kieran Devanney took the win the whole way to the finish. I dont think that I’ve ever heard someone screaming so loud through the finish. After getting tangle on the upwind mark, I managed to make a big comback right at the end to finish in third.
In race three I was able to get the perfect start, and chasing the wind the whole way I finished in just over 6 minutes. One of the shortest races that I’ve ever sailed.
The committee decided to run one more race all in a row, and this time junior Zachery Lyman took advantage of a great lift to pass me
right before the upwind mark. Then as he was running out of wind just after the mark I jibed back into the gust and took off, lit up most of the way to the downwind mark. Zach jibed to follow and was able to maintain his second place.
I was very happy when we finally got to head back to the beach since I was feeling a bit tired from pumping a good bit of the course for all four races. But I was feeling pretty good with three bullets and a third.
For the rest of the day we chilled on the beach eating some great food and watching quite a few really cute girls cruising around the lake. I cant wait for tomorrow, to see even more on the weekend.
