Day 2 at the US Open saw winds slightly increase to around 8-13 knots. Three races were completed today with Gonzalo Costa Hoevel starting to dominate the event and the minor placings up for grabs.
Race 2 saw Wilhem Schurmann take the lead after Costa Hoevel was called over early, Jimmy Diaz got away clean to round the first mark in second. Boulon was back in third, with Buzianis close in 4th and McGain just in touch in 5th. Schurmann went on to take his first victory of the regatta, with Diaz stretching it out ahead of Boulon to finish in second, with Micah and Phil finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Race 3.
Gonzalo made no mistakes this time, getting a clean start on port, just getting around the weather mark ahead of McGain in second and Buzianis in 3rd. Gonzalo held onto his lead around the course, while Buzianis passed McGain on the downwind. Buzianis finished second to Gonzalo, McGain in third, Boulon and Wilhem Sherman in fourth and fifth.
Race 4.
With winds picking up now to a consistent 15 knots, sailors started to enjoy the Corpus Christi conditions. Costa Hoevel again showed his board speed and tactic’s leading the fleet all the round the course to take an easy victory. Devon Boulon sailed a great race to finish in second, while Jimmy Diaz got it back together to take a well deserved third. McGain and Sherman finished in fourth and fifth.
