Two races at the first day of the Multivan Windsurf Cup Heiligenhafen
The Formula Windsurfing European Championship had a successful start in the Baltic Sea resort Heiligenhafen. Although the wind forecast was not good, Heiligenhafen surprised with surfable conditions. On the opening day two races could be sailed directly. As with every Multivan Windsurf Cup, a special focus was on the opening race. The Grand Prix of the LVM Versicherung was endowed with 1.000 Euro prize money. Vincent Langer (GER-1, Fanatic, Duotone) won 500 Euro prize money, while Fabi Wolf (GER-404, FMX Racing, Gun Sails) and Tomaz Romanowski (POL-163, Starboard, Severne) won 300 Euro and 200 Euro.
In both races of the day, Vincent Langer from Kiel was able to dominate. With two victories Langer secured the ideal score of 2.0 and thus leads the European Championship ranking at the end of the first day. The champion in the Fin Slalom thereby set an optimal basis for the mission “European Championship title”.
Langer had exciting duels with Fabi Wolf, who just arrived from the World Sailing Championship in The Hague. The lead between Langer and Wolf changed several times in each race. As the newly crowned German Champion in Foil Slalom, Wolf only had to admit victory to Langer by a narrow margin. With two second places, Wolf has 4.0 points and is currently in second place overall.
Third place goes to Tomaz Romanowski from Poland. With his third and fourth place he comes in second.
Spain’s Fernando Martinez del Cerro (ESP-71, Starboard, Severne) and Meno Büchler (GER-91, Starboard, Severne) from Kiel complete the Top-5.
Meno Büchler is also best Youth U20. Second place in this age group goes to Leo Richter (GER-9, JP, Neil Pryde) from Kiel. Third place in the Youth category also goes to Kiel: Felix Wehkamp (GER-247, Fanatic, Duotone) completes the podium after day one of the European Championships.
In the Junior U17 classification, Paul Regber (GER-17, Tahe, Techno Windfoil), who is only fifteen years old, dominated. In both races Regber could place himself at the top of the juniors and celebrated a successful start into his regatta career at the Formula Windsurfing European Championship.
Berlin’s Pelle Bo Behrendt (GER-769, Starboard, Sailloft) followed in second place ahead of Kiel’s Eric Wehkamp (GER-240, Fanatic, Duotone).
In the Master ranking Fernando Martinez del Cerro from Spain leads ahead of the Polish Wojciech Olejnik (POL-2119, FMX Racing, Loft Sails) and Jacek Dubaniewicz (POL-212, Starboard, Loft Sails).
Also for Friday good wind is predicted. From 10:30 a.m. further races can be expected at the Erlebnis-Seebrücke in Heiligenhafen. The Formula Windsurfing European Championship within the Multivan Windsurf Cup Heiligenhafen will run until Sunday. At 05:00 p.m. the new European champions will be announced during the award ceremony.
