The windsurfers have taken over at the Multivan Summer Opening on Sylt. The best of them will fight for the world title in Formula Windsurfing from 30th of May until the 5th of June at Brandenburger Beach in Westerland. 50 competitors out of 15 nations have come to Sylt which means there will be a strong field and lots of action on the water.
„We are very happy to welcome such a top-class fleet of racers on Sylt. Lots of former world champions are here to fight for the title. We can look forward to some really exciting races.“, says Matthias Regber (CEO Choppy Water GmbH).
The riders had to wait the whole day before the first race could finally start at 7pm in the evening. This gave all competitors enough time to get their equipment ready. The first race started with 10 to 12 knots on the course and delivered some head-to-head fights between the top favorites Vincent Langer (GER-1), Steve Allen (AUS-0), Alexandre Cousin (FRA-752) and Nico Prien (GER-7). Finally Nico Prien chose the right tactis and could win his first race at a Formula Windsurfing World championship. A great success for the young German rider.
The second race of the day was started directly back to back after the first one. This time it was another German rider that took the victory after a strong performance on the race course. Sebastian Kördel (GER-220) left his opponents behind him and finished first in front of Steve Allen (AUS-0) and Vincent Langer (GER-1).
Overall leader after two races is Steve Allen with four points in the overall ranking. He is followed by Vincent Langer on second place (7 points) and Alexandre Cousin (also 7 points). The Top-5 is completed by Nico Prien (GER-7) with nine points and Gunnar Asmussen (GER-2) with 12 points.
