The cold front that arrived at night, brought some awesome conditions for today.

Most of the sailors went out on 10’s since the wind was around 15-18 knots, if this was a normal spot, you could easily go out with 11’s, but here in Montevideo, the South wind is onshore and you get a crazy choppy sea, that if its over 25 knots, all the harbors close and it’s impossible to go out. So with the 15-18 knots we had today, it was already impossible not to hit some head hight chop and get air lifted.

The course for the day was a windward leeward course with 2 upwinds and we set out to do 3 back to back races.

First Race

On the first race, Paulo dos Reis BRA3333 took the early lead in the upwind mark followed by Gonzalo Costa ARG3 and Myself (Wilhelm Schurmann BRA999). Just behind was Mathias Pinheiro and Guillermo Ahlig URU 7.

On the downwind Paulo dos Reis started sailing to the wrong buoy but manage to recover and start the second upwind just ahead of Gonzalo and myself. Paulo had good speed against the big chops in port tack and when he rounded the last upwind, he was clear ahead and kept it that way on the last downwind to the finish. Gonzalo Followed in second, I came in third, followed by Mathias in fourht and Guillermo topping the top 5, then came Ricardo Conde, Renato Pozolo, Mateus Isaac, Ricardo Pretz and Federico Fraschini in 10th.

Second Race

It was a good fight to the first upwind mark, Paulo manage to round it first followed by myself, Gonzalo, Mathias Pinheiro, and Ricardo Conde.

On the downwind mark, Paulo rounded in first, I followed in second and Gonzalo close behind. Half way though the upwind I tacked and tried going to the other side of the course which didn’t pay to much. In the end Paulo took the second race, Gonzalo jumped to second, I finished third followed by Mathias once again in fourth and Ricardo conde in Fifth. Renato Pozolo actually went across the finish line in fifth after a incredible come back, but he failed to go around the pin end before sailing to the finish, which cost him a DNF.

Third Race

The last race of the day was a bit lighter and Gonzalo and Mathias had a very good start. Paulo dos Reis decided to tack and go port after the start as he was getting buried behind mathias and Gonzalo, it payed of and he got a nice shift on his side along with Ricardo Pretz and a few other sailors. By the time Gonzalo, Mathias and Myself crossed him, he was clear ahead with a big lead, Gonzalo followed in second, I in third and Mathias in Fourth. There was a bit of a confusion on the first lap, as there was the upwind mark, and just above it a boat with another mark that was taken out from the outer loop course that the RSX were on. So a few sailors overlayed the upwind thinking that the boat and the mark was the correct one.

On the downwind all stayed the same and on the second upwind Paulo manage to maintain his lead, I decided to risk and tack early and manage to close a bit on Paulo and round in front of Gonzalo, I think Paulo and Gonzalo got confused with the boat and the mark and actually overlaid the mark by a bit.

On the downwind, Paulo was clear ahead and took the last race to make it 3 bullets in a row, I finished in second followed by Gonzalo just 2 meters behind in third. Fourth was Mathias and in fifth Guillermo Ahlig, who had a nasty catapult and bashed his board pretty nasty !
