What have happened to you last weekend?

Wojtek: I was training for the next coming event – European Championship in Turkey. In the afternoon, we were wakeboarding and I had one unfortunate landing after pretty high jump. I had broken my leg between the knee and ankle – it was open fracture with displacement – really bad and painful. I almost lost my consciousness. After a second a rescue mission has begun but I knew that it was really, really bad. I was hoping that we are going to put a plaster and I will go with my friends to see the movies at night. Nevertheless, when I arrived to the hospital it was clear that open fracture with displacement is not a joke. There was possibility of infection, because bone has cut the skin.

For the next 5 days I am staying at the hospital, using 3 antibiotics intravenously, and other injections and on Friday I will have major operation of getting my bones into one, proper piece.

It will take at least 3 months to knit my bones together, then about 3 months of rehabilitation – so for at least 6 months I have to forget about the trainings, so if I am lucky, I will start to compete in Brazil, November.

You will have plenty of time, what will you do meanwhile?

Wojtek:Finally I have plenty of time to read all the books that I’ve collected during last months.

I have time also to think about my life from other perspective. For sure this accident will not affect my commitment to doing windsurfing and I will get back to it as soon as I will be able to – this is my life and I am not going to change it. I am going to prepare well to the next season.

And finally I will have enough time to meet my friends, spent time on the beach, visit all the places that I haven’t time to visit and do everything what I want and on what I haven’t time from 20 years of competing in windsurfing – now I have my first vacations from 20 years.

Normally injuries give me great motivations. I know that when I will be back I will be stronge then ever. I have very positive filling about this…
