Wind Stats in Melbourne Bay

Clik the link and check the Melbourne Bay wind plots from DEC 10 thru 20 for the last 5 years.

Each chart shows windspeed and direction vs time of day for the FAWKNER BEACON location, which is some 8 kms to windward (in prevailing onshore directions) of the FW race site.

Because of the location on top of a marine tower in the middle of the Bay, the readings are somewhat higher than “on water” sailing conditions in the race area at Elwood.

Typically, we would adjust these readings in ONSHORE directions to Elwood by the following margins;

Below 10 kts ; subtract 2 knots.

Range 10 – 20 kts : subtract 3-5 Knots

Range 20 – 30 knots : subtract 5 -7 kts

Range 30 – 40+kts : subtract 7-10 but go wavesailing anyway.
