When I got up this morning at 8:30 the wind was looking the same as the day before. Very windy!!!! When I arrived at the race site I was surprised to hear that they were sending us out for Formula. As I had just received a new 10.0 the day before racing I wasn’t tuned into it yet so I didn’t want to jump right on it. So I took out my 10.8 which sounded okay as the Race Director was calling maximum gusts of 21knots at the windward mark. When I got out to the start it was much more.

Race #5 A vs. D. I started starboard at the pin while Phil ducked me on port tack and went to the outside. I went inside and tacked up towards the mark. On the upper half of the course the gusts were probably 25-30knots. One gust caught me off guard and crashed me to windward. I recovered and continued to the layline where I had to duck Phil coming across from the outside. I almost caught him on the downwind and reaches and rounded the leeward finish pin just behind him. I had a little more speed……….For full days report please check out www.devonboulon.com News page.
