This morning the fog had already burned off by the time i arrived, a littleafter ten. it was looking like a sunny and beautiful day but it was still alittle cold with the wind starting to build. at about 11:45 the wind wasblowing about 12-17 and Black and Yellow headed out for the first formularace. the Junior and Prodigy had already started their first races. we werecompleting the last four races of the qualification series before they spliteveryone into Gold and Silver fleets.
Race #9
Black and Yellow. Sam, Jimmy and Phil all got off to a great starton starboard tack and had quite a duel between the three of them for thewhole race. Phil ended up continuing his great racing to take his fourthbullet with Sam in second, Jimmy in third and Mike in fourth.Race #10 Blue and Green. Starboard to the beach was looking favored againso i started down the middle with seth just above me and Micah and MikePercy(who just joined us for today) had a perfect start at the boat. i wasfeeling pretty quick and edged out seth who was forced to tack off. butmicah and mike seemed to be riding a good puff upwind of me and were pullingup. i tacked perfectly on the layline and sailed straight to the mark. Micahwent a bit to far and had to reach down to round behind me. in third was Robwith Mike and Seth fighting it out just behind him. Micah jibed off on thedownwind but i kept going in and then jibed to the mark. i rounded leeward abit ahead and then was having some really good speed and was slowly pullingaway. better than yesterday. about halfway up he went to the inside but icontinued on to tack on the layline. just before the mark i caught a goodgust and almost blew up but just saved my self and edged around the markstill in first. then i held him off to the finish to take my third bulletwith Micah 2nd, Rob 3rd, Seth 4th and Mike P 5th.
Race #11 Green and Yellow. I went for Port tack star at the Pin with Micahright on my back. but just as i was about to cross the line there was aprodigy sailor finishing on starboard and i was forced to duck him whichforced me to duck the whole fleet. Micah easily cleared the whole fleet andwas well out in front. i was catching up a little and then tacked early onthe layline making the mark to round right with Phil(who had gone to theinside) right on Micahs tail. but just as i rounded some more bad luck hitme and my harness broke. i went back to the beach and got another one anddecided to finish the race but only got back to 15th. micah won easily withPhil in 2nd and Mike Z in 3rd.
Race #12 Black and Blue. Jimmy and Sam both started port and had a veryclose fight for the whole race with Jimmy finaly taking his first bullet.Sam got 2nd and Seth, Rob and Mike P finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th.after that they took a breat to split Formula into Gold and Silver.unfortunately Mike Percy had only raced the last 2 races so despite getting2 5th places they still stuck him in Silver.
Race #1 Gold. we all started on starboard and headed for the beach. i hadgood speed about halfway down the line and pulled out away from Phil whothen tacke off for clear air. Sam had tacked early for the outside and itdidnt work out so well for him. i tacked a bit to early and Micah who hadhad a great start at the boat tack right on top of me and gave me all hisbad air. Jimmy had also started at the boat and tacked a bit below and infront of micah. i got to the layline in 4th and tacked underneath Jimmy butdidnt make the mark and was forced to double tack giving up a lot of groundto round in 5th back a little. Micah took the lead and kept it easily withhis good downwind speed. i jibed to the outside and made up alot of gound toround just behind Phil and the rest. Phil and Jimmy dropped below for morespeed and I stuck it up just above Sam’s wake who was just above Micah’swake. i fought and was slowly pulling them in with pretty good speed. butabout halfway up i decided to tack to the inside which cost me dearly. thefour guys rounded all tightly together and i rounded well back in 6th a bitbehind Rob with Mike Z on my tail. i jibed to the outside and made up hugeground to get to 5th but not enough to be a threat to the leaders. Micahtook the win with Jimmy in 2nd, Phil in 3rd, Sam in 4th and Me in fifth.behind me was Rob, Mike Z and Seth.
Race # 1 Silver. the wind was getting very windy about 28-32 knots so aftersending the silver out to race they told us that we were finished for theday. Mike Percy easily won the Silver race by a good 5 minutes.
