90 competitors are ready to race at Crissy Field, San Francisco. Famous for the tough conditions and tough locals, the winds today was just a taste of what’s to come, by noon it was up to 20 knots, by the late afternoon, it was gusting over 30. Most sailors were scrambling for there smallest rigs, most of them being around 8.5 to 9.0.

Micah Buzianis, Sam Ireland, Devon Boulon, Jimmy Diaz, Phil McGain and Seth Besse will be battling the locals, lead by Mike Z and Steve Sylvester. Both Formula racing and slalom racing will be held and titles given away in only age groups.

One notable point on the beach today was the large group of Junior sailors, which Charles Ivy has built up over the past years, all of them going out for a training session today at noon. We will be watching them as the week progesses and report on these girls and boys as they take on the conditions here in the Bay area.

Official racing starts tomorrow at 11am

I’m here in windy San Francisco getting ready for the US National Championships. Racing starts tomorrow and goes for five days through Saturday.

Today was the last day of practice and San Fran was showing us her power. It was a heavy 25 gusting to 30knots making it pretty wild on the water. I was out traing on my 11.0 and was getting beat around quite a bit. Jimmy had his 9.8 and he was having quite a wild ride as well.

So it is looking to be a pretty fun exciting US Nationals with top pros Micah, Phil, Sam, Jimmy and myself, along with all the top SF Bay riders who are very used to tough windy conditions and are not easy to shake off at all, like Rob Hartman, Mike Zaichek, Mike Percy, Steve Sylvester and more. Also we have a few traveling a pretty long way to get here ranging from Mike Porter from the US Virgin Islands, Yurgi from Japan and even a few guys all the way from Australia. So with a good chance of some high wind action it should be alot of fun.

Best of luck to all and ill see you on the water.
