Xavier Ferlet, who came 2nd in the 2003 Formula Masters Worlds got an entry in the Bercy slalom trials to be held on Friday, March 26th. Xavier is a regular competitor at international Formula events and he’s also a keen slalom racer who won the British slalom title in 2003.

It will be tough to qualify for the main Bercy show on Saturday night as other trial candidates include top riders Ricardo Campello and Douglas Diaz. Lesser known entrants in the trials are Xavier Huart and Oliver-Tom Schleimann. Xavier Huart has shown good performance in previous Bercy events and Oliver-Tom Schliemann is very light so they should also be very serious contenders.

Xavier will make the most of the experience he recently gained at his first indoor event at London in January 2004 (photos by Al Nicoll). He came 3rd in the UK indoor slalom behind Nik Baker (many times indoor world champion), Ben Proffitt and ahead of John Hibbard. Other slalom competitors in London included Robby Swift and Chris Audsley. John Hibbard also got an entry in the slalom trials so the two Starboard UK team mates will be sharing racing tips!

The coveted prize for the top two out of nine slalom trial entrants will be to compete in the Saturday night show against invited competitors who include legends like Robby Naish, Robert Teriitehau, Bjorn Dunkerbeck, Erik Thieme and Kauli Seadi. Antoine Albeau is also invited for the show. Although Antoine’s size isn’t ideal for indoor performance, he’s so fit that he could well cause some surprises!
