– A great event comes to its end –

– A total of 12 spectacular races was sailed in the Bay of Golden Beach / Paros –

– Wojtek Brzozowski is dominating the event –

Paros (Greece), September 8th 2003. The final day of the Euro-Cup was again a demonstration of perfect Racing in the Bay of Golden Beach / Paros. The wind was a little bit lighter than yesterday with 10 to 16 knots all over the day. The race committee set up a classical up and down course and run 3 final races on this day.

Wojtek Brzozowski (POL-10, Starboard, Neil Pryde) has confirmed his domination of the event already yesterday. He was able to win all the five races on Sunday and ensured his first place with an unbeatable lead.

But the fight for the following positions was fully on: In the first race of the day Devon Boulon (ISV-1, F2, Windwing) from the Virgin Islands proved his light wind potential and took the victory. Ross Williams (GBR-83, Starboard, Gaastra) from Great Britain managed to get second in front of Aleks Grynis (POL-86, Starboard, Neil Pryde) from Poland. In the second race Jamie Lever (GBR-5, Starboard, Gaastra) was able to win in front of Wojtek who was relaxed today and tried some experiments. The third place went to Devon Boulon kicking him further up in the result list. The honour to win the 12th and final race of the competition went to the Italian Champion Andrea Cucchi (ITA-1, Starboard, Neil Pryde). Andrea confirmed another time his position as one of the main opponents of Wojtek. The second place went to Jamie Lever in front of Ben van der Steen (NED-57, Fanatic, Neil Pryde).

After a total of 12 races with three discards the Polish dominator Wojtek Brzozowski has delivered an impressive demonstration of his performance: With 7 straight bullets and a total of 8,9 points he has obviously dominated the EC Paros. On the second position with some distance to the winner follows the “Italian Stallion” Andrea Cucchi with 2 victories and 26,4 points. The fight for the third place was very tight. In the end it was Ross Williams who was able to win the third place on the podium with 41,0 points. He wasn’t able to win a race but provided constant pressure and performance. Steve Allen, the EC Champion of 2002 scored a 4th position with a total of 43 points. On his heals on the 5th place we can find Aleks Grynis with 44,7 points who was able to win one of the races.

The EC Paros was a great success for the most important racing series of the World. For the first time an event of the series took place in Greece. Paros has been a perfect host for the top racers. The 12 spectacular races proved that the Meltemi has been a reliable partner for the race organization. Although it also brought a premiere with the first time in the history of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup that it was not possible to compete on one day for too much wind. The venue “Golden Beach” in Paros is a perfect arena for Racing. The beach is fabulous and the “Sunwind Station” and the “Chipie Chipie Beachbar” are the perfect base for high level competitions.

The participants have enjoyed their days on Paros as one of the most beautiful islands in the Aegean Sea and hope that the support for the event will continue so that they will be invited again in the coming season for the Euro-Cup 2004. The local organizer Theo Fisilianis and the Windsurfing Office are also more then satisfied with the event and plan already the competition of the coming year.
