– Perfect Racing in the Bay of Golden Beach / Paros –

– Five Races at the EC Paros –

– Wojtek Brzozowski is unbeatable –

Paros (Greece), September 7th 2003. Today we had again perfect racing conditions in the Bay of Golden Beach / Paros. As the forecasts were predicting that the wind would drop down during the day the race committee had decided to set up the start early. The skippers meeting was already at 08:00 with the first possible start at 08:30. In the end the perfect wind in Paros proved how wrong the forecasts can be sometimes. The wind stayed until the afternoon and got event stronger over the races. The race committee set up the same classical up and down course in the beginning to run 3 races. Then the competitors were granted a rest. For the last two races the finish was placed directly at the beach.

This day brought a total domination of Wojtek Brzozowski (POL-10, Starboard, Neil Pryde). He was able to win all the five races today and confirmed his potential to win the Euro-Cup 2003 as the most important racing series of the World. At the Euro-Cup in Paros he is leading by far with a total of only 4,9 points and even discarding a second place! So the interest is merely focussing on the fight for the other positions on the podium. The Italian Champion Andrea Cucchi (ITA-1, Starboard, Neil Pryde) is presenting himself with a strong performance. He was one of the few competitors who was able to win a race besides the domination of Wojtek. With 21,7 points he is in a strong position before the final day. Without any mayor mistakes he should be able to defeat his second position.

The fight for the third position is fully on. Five guys have a realistic chance for the third place on the podium: The best chances has Ross Williams (GBR-83, Starboard, Gaastra). After a very consistent performance he has 32 points. On his heals he has Steve Allen (AUS-0, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) from Australia with 33,0 points. The Euro-Cup Champion of 2002 had a disappointing start into the event but is (as usual) getting stronger during the regatta. Only 0,8 points behind on the 5th place is Ramses Landman (NED-72, F2, Gaastra) who is producing continuous pressure on the leaders. The second Polish top rider Aleks Grynis (POL-86, Starboard, Neil Pryde) was the third guy to score a victory besides Wojtek and Andrea. With 37,7 points he is just 1,3 points ahead of Ben van der Steen (NED-57, Fanatic, Neil Pryde, 39,0 points).

For tomorrow there is the chance for more spectacular races at the EC Paros. The skippers meeting is set for 10:00 with the first possible start at 11:00.
