Day 1 – Race Report

90 competitors gathered at the Circolo Surf Torbole, Lake Garda, for the first skippers meeting of the first Junior, Youth & Masters Formula Festival in history. This is certainly a good base from which to build for the future!

The Ora wind obliged us by kicking in with a good 10> 12 knots from the south at 1400hrs . First to start were all the women’s divisions and Juniors boys. Marc Risjsselberghe (NED 82) had a good race moving up steadily through the junior fleet to cross the line first. Cruel fate snatched the win away later as he had infringed Florian Bandel (GER 383) while overtaking at the top mark. Robert Baldyga (POL 168) inherited the win to finish the day with two bullets to top the leader board infront of Florian Bandel (GER 383) on 7 points and Oliver Tom Schliemann (ESP 19) 3rd overall on 10 points. Oliver Tom is the leading under 15 competitor.

Alberto Menegatti (ITA 456) had a good day “in the office” registering two bullets with Renard Florent (FRA 539) sailing consistently to score a 2nd and a 3rd to take second overall in the Youth World Championships just in front of Peter Yovtchev (BUL 21) and Julien Quentel (FRA 421) who are tied in third.

More later… Zulu has been raised (1300hrs) for the third races (day 2) in the series
