– The success continues –

– Another 3 races with 3 different winners in the Bay of Cascais –

– Steve Allen is still in the lead –

Cascais / Lisbon (Portugal), June 6th 2003. The success continues at the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Cascais: Today the wind provided perfect conditions for the racing elite of the windsurfing World. In the morning the wind was still shifty and gusty but in the afternoon the thermical breeze stabilized and brought perfect 12 to 16 knots to the Bay of Cascais.

The first race was won by the Polish hot shot Aleks Grynis (POL-86, Starboard, Neil Pryde). On his heals he had the Italian youngster Alberto Menegatti (ITA-456, Starboard, YES Sails) who is getting stronger and stronger. On the third place we find “Danish Dynamite” Brian Roegild (DEN-173, Starboard, Gaastra). The fourth place was won by Steve Allen (AUS-0, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) in front of the current leader of the Euro-Cup Andrea Cucchi (ITA-1, Starboard, Neil Pryde)

In the second race Fanatics high wind expert Ben van der Steen (NED-57, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) was able to score with a victory. Again Alberto Menegatti was able to achieve a second place. On the third position we found another Fanatic rider Pieter Bijl (NED-0, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) in front of Steve Allen and the Starboard youngster Michal Polanowski (POL-16, Starboard, Neil Pryde).

In the last race it seemed as if Alberto can finally take a victory. He was leading the entire race but on the last downwind he caught a rope which made him catapult. This opened the door for a victory of Michal Polanowski in front of Steve Allen and Pieter Bijl. Alberto managed to save at least a fourth place in front of Benny boy van der Steen.

After the second day and seven races with two discards Fanatic rider Steve Allen is still leading the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Cascais/Lisbon (Portugal) with a total of 9,4 points. On his heals he has the Polish Starboard hot shot Michal Polanowski with 14,7 points and Pieter Bijl from the Fanatic team with 16,7 points. The YES Sails top racers Alberto Menegatti moved up to the fourth place with 22,0 points followed by Aleks Grynis from Poland.

Also for the next days the forecast is promising great conditions so that we can hope for more exciting racing action at the Euro-Cup Cascais/Lisbon. For tomorrow we expect another four races that will introduce the second discard. The skippers meeting is set for 11:00. The first possible start is scheduled for 12:00.
