On the final day of the US Open windsurfing regatta the winds picked up to 15-25 knots. Gonzalo Costa Hoevel going into today could not afford an another bad race rouse to the occasion to score a 1, 2 and 5th in the three races today and secure victory at the event. Micah Buzianis had a solid day to score 2, 1 and 1. This was enough to more him up to second place, just in front of Phil McGain, who had a consistent day getting 4, 5 and 2nd. Phil placing third in the open also scored a runaway victory in the Masters division ahead of Bruce Peterson in second and Mike Zajicek in third.
Devon Boulon who was leading going into todays races didn’t have the best of days, dropped back to fifth in the event after scoring 3, 6 and 6th in today’s three races. Wilhelm Schurmann from Brazil rounded out the top six.
Ken Merten won the Grand Masters from Michael Johnson and the founder of the event who has competed in every US Open since it began, Dr Charles Allen came in third.
First Junior was Seth Besse finishing seventh in the open, second in the junior was Gabriel Starosta, with third place going to Tyler Gibson.
