Dear Ladies, I would like to thank you for presenting such a great show and helping to make the Windsurfing Euro-Cup Malcesine an unforgettable experience for the windsurfing community! It was great to have so many of you there. I have seen many FW competitions in the last years and I have to say that this was the first time that a real “fleet” was fighting on the water.
You all have improved a lot in the last months and the Diva Camp seems to have given you the last sharpness. A special thank you at this place to Henriette who has organized the camp and to the two coaches Brian and Nicolai who have really “worked their asses of” in more then 12-hour-working-days. But also for you it must have been challenging days with a demanding, “military-like” Diva Camp and the Euro-Cup with 15 races in four days directly after each other.
So not only your number but also your performance on the water was great! You have presented great starts, hard upwind fights, breath taking downwind reaches, great tactical skill. I was able to feel how passionate you are for the sport that we all love so much. I am quite sure that many boys will think twice before they make jokes about girls again. In fact many of them benefited from you by studying your starts to check the line! An important factor in my eyes was that you have been able to get much closer and to unite as a big important group so that you will be able to achieve more in the future. But the most important thing is that you all had a great time with a lot of fun on and also outside the water!!!
I hope that you will have a great time at the FW Europeans and that I will meet many of you at the Windsurfing Euro-Cup in Cagliari / Sardinia (Italy) from May 29th to May 31st. I believe that it is important that you take advantage of the platform that is offered to you with the FW Women Cup. Only by further increasing your level of participation, bringing your friends and motivating more girls to join the races you will be able to support women windsurfing and on a longer perspective ensure a better support for you from various sides: windsurfing industry, associations, organizers and external sponsors.
At the EC in Cagliari/Sardinia the organizer offers a free entry for all female competitors. Additionally there is a 50% discount for the ferry to Sardinia and a free camping directly at the event site available. The conditions for Formula racing are great and especially for women it will be a great place to present their skill as the hot temperatures combined with green water, blue sky and bright sunshine provide a perfect arena to present the female side of windsurfing.
