The wind picked up and out we went. The conditions were really bad super gusty and offshore making for some tricky racing. The first race of the day the wind was the best and I managed to win the first race. I was really happy with this after having such a poor performance in the US Midwinters, to come out and win the first one, I was really excited. Steve Allen finished in second about a minute behind!!! I was really satified with this race.
The second race was even worse conditions with shiftier and lighter wind, and I managed to do not so good finishing in 5th position. Steve Allen was winning the race, but forgot about one of the marks which cost him the lead, giving it to Ramses Landman to take the win. This race frustatrating but just kept the focus. The wind was all over the show making the races really difficult.
The third race came late in the day after sitting around for a couple hours, and this race was incredible. I had a terrible start which turned out to be terrific. I was on port and went under the entire fleet and went over to the right side of the course and was just pure luck. When the wind was up, I felt really fast. I was really far out in the lead followed by Ben Van Der Steen. After the bottum mark, Ben, Arnon Dagan, and Brian Rogild all passed me on a killer shift. After thinking I was going to be lucky to finish in 5th position, and all of the sudden I got a super lift putting me back in contention. I ended up rounding the top mark in second position behind Arnon. On the downwind, I managed to pump my way past Arnon to take the last race. This race was so incredibly shifty it was unbelievable. The wind shifts were from 180 degrees with gusts to 16 knots to wholes of 4 knots.
More to come tomorrow and hopefully we can have better conditions.
