Due to a massive request from competitors and national associations the “Measurement and Equipment Workgroup” and the “Formula Windsurfing Class Committee” have evaluated the developments of the equipment in the International Formula Windsurfing Class. Both groups recommend the following changes of the class rules in order to ensure a further growth of the class, an increase of participation in FW regattas and to reduce the costs for the competitors:
1. The maximum number of sails is reduced from three sails to two sails. The maximum number of fins is reduced from three fins to two fins.
2. The maximum sail area for men is reduced from 12.5 m2 to 11.0 m2. The maximum sail area for women and youth (U19) is reduced from 11.0 m2 to 10.0 m2. The maximum mast and boom length may be reduced accordingly.
The proposal for the rule change is send to ISAF for approval and will be presented at the AGM. Competitors, manufacturers, national associations, organizers and media will be informed.
The changes will be effective from 1st January 2003 if they are approved by the IFWC AGM at the Worlds Sylt in September and the ISAF November Meeting.
