Take the Lake Garda shifty wids and ocean’s long, high wave and this is what
you find outside Cascais harbour where first races of 2002 Europeans were sailed
today.
It was Dorota Staszewska (NeilPryde, Starboard) who took four victories today. ‘The
first race I wasn’t going very well, after one lap I was still in 4th, but then
English girls (Christine Johnston and Lucy Horwood) overlaid the
upwind mark and Verena and me took advantage of that. I had really good last
down wind and managed to win this first race feeling very lucky!
Dorota kept it in style the whole day and always crossed the finishing line
first. Lucy Horwood (Gaastra, AHD) and Verena Fauster (Gaastra, Starboard)
fought for the second position and after today’s four races carry the same
points.
It was a very long day with sailors coming back in around 7 pm. 12-16
knots of wind made this Friday a good start of Championships.
